London through the eyes of an MA student new to the city

Weaving through Columbia Road flower market…

This small stretch of road will have you continuously turning from side to side to spot the many surprises, such as pineapple flowers and colourful cactus, and absorb the eclectic textures and fragrances issuing from the huge array of flowers.

Creative independent shops are hidden behind the flower stalls – ‘J & B The Shop’ run by two young Welsh makers is the highlight. They beautifully present handmade ceramic jewellery, mixed-media vintage ornaments, clothes and journals.

Also look out for live music; the singer Brooke Sharkey had me and my companion completely captivated. It was lovely to discover such brilliant local music as well as new flowers!
